Our journey begins with an early departure from Cusco, the historical heart of the Inca Empire. As we drive through the Andean countryside, the sun will rise, illuminating the rugged landscape that awaits our trek. Upon arrival at Upis, we will enjoy our first breakfast together. The flavor of the local ingredients that offer a taste of the region’s culinary richness.
The trail from Upis to the Arapa Pass will be the beginning into the high-altitude world of the Ausangate. We will ascend gradually, feeling the air thin as we reach the summit of the pass at 4,850 meters (15,912 feet).
From here, the views are unparalleled, with the Ausangate mountain imposing its presence. Our descent then takes us through a landscape peppered with traditional Andean communities. Also, we will see herds of llamas and alpacas grazing.
As evening approaches, we will reach Yana Qocha. This serene spot, with its glistening waters reflecting the mountainous backdrop, is where we will set up camp.
We will have dinner under the canopy of the high Andean sky. Is a perfect time to share stories and prepare for the following day’s adventure. Our guides will brief us on what to expect, ensuring we rest with minds as peaceful as the surrounding nature.
With the break of dawn at Yana Qocha, we will savor breakfast while the sun’s rays dance across the water’s surface. Today’s trek is about embracing the heart of the Ausangate region. Its diverse ecosystems and the vibrant colors of the Andean flora await us.
The trail to Ananta winds through a landscape that blends rugged mountain faces with the soft textures of high-altitude grasslands. As we approach Qomer Qocha, our campsite for the night, we will pass by an array of mountain lakes. Each one a different shade of blue and green, fringed with wildflowers and fed by glacial streams. After setting up camp, we can enjoy the evening. We will prepare our spirits for the Rainbow Mountain the next day.
We will take a sumptuous dinner and a briefing on the upcoming day’s trek. Also we will tuck into our tents, lulled to sleep by the gentle sounds of the Andean night.
Waking up to the crisp morning air at Qomer Qocha, we will begin our day with a nutritious breakfast for the trek ahead. Today is a day filled with natural wonders. We will set out to witness the famous Rainbow Mountain. Is a place where geology and artistry converge in stripes of vibrant colors painted across the landscape.
The ascent to Rainbow Mountain is a true highlight, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience. At its summit, we will take the time to soak in the surreal landscape. Is truly a canvas of reds, yellows, and greens, carved by the hand of time and the elements.
Descending from this kaleidoscopic wonder, we will make our way to Ananta for lunch. There we will rejuvenate our energy levels amidst breathtaking sceneries.
Our path then continues towards Ausangate Qocha, a pristine lake lying at the foot of the sacred Ausangate Mountain. The afternoon’s hike is gentler, allowing us to appreciate the vastness of the Andes.
Upon arrival at the campsite, we will be next to the mirror-like waters of the lake, a tranquil setting for our overnight stay. As dusk falls, we will share dinner and stories, discussing the day’s experiences. We will look ahead to tomorrow’s ventures as the stars begin their nightly display above us.
The morning at Ausangate Qocha greets us with a serene landscape bathed in soft light, and we will start with a hearty breakfast. As we break camp, we’ll prepare for a day that will be in our memories. We will trek alongside the towering Ausangate, which dominates the skyline.
Our route leads us across a highland valley carpeted with lush ichu grass. The silence gets nule by the distant cries of soaring Andean animals. Here, we will witness the raw beauty of the Andes, untouched and pure.
The hike to Jampa is challenging, but we will support each other. We will stop as needed to catch our breath and marvel at the stunning views.
Arriving in Jampa, we will find ourselves enveloped in a sense of accomplishment. This small Andean community offers a glimpse into a lifestyle that has remained unchanged for centuries.
We will set up our final camp here, taking time to reflect on the journey thus far. As the sun sets, we will gather for dinner. We will enjoy the friendship and the peacefulness that only the mountains can offer.
On our final morning, we will wake up in Jampa to a satisfying breakfast, preparing for the last leg of our trek. The descent towards Pacchanta Town offers us sweeping views of the valleys we’ve traversed. In Pacchanta, the optional visit to the hot springs offers a soothing experience, with warm waters. These provide a relief to our tired muscles and a perfect conclusion to our physical endeavors.
We will make our way back to Cusco. And we will carry with us not just photographs, but also a deep connection to the land and its people. Our 5-day Ausangate trek concludes as we return to the starting point. The farewells will start, and the promise of future adventures lingers in the air.
