Our 4-day adventure into the Manu Cultural Zone stands as one of the most amazing excursions by tour operators. Highly recommended for its comprehensive exploration of biodiversity, this tour promises an immersive experience into the Peruvian Amazon’s heart.
We will depart early from Cusco and ascend into the Andes, reaching the cloud forest’s entrance by mid-morning. We will trek through the mist-shrouded canopy, home to the elusive Cock-of-the-rock and a plethora of orchid species. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive in Pilcopata. Then we will settle into our lodgings where the sounds of the jungle create a natural symphony for our first night.
Daybreak finds us navigating the vibrant Alto Madre de Dios River to our next destination, Tantanal. Here, we’ll engage with local communities, learning of their customs and symbiotic relationship with the forest. By evening, we’ll spend the night Albergue Amazon Manu, lulled to sleep by the nocturnal chorus of the jungle.
An early start allows us to visit a bustling parrot clay lick, witnessing a rainbow of birds at dawn. Afterward, we’ll experience the ziplining through the canopy (optional), glimpsing the jungle from above. The afternoon’s highlight is canoeing on MachuWasi Lake, where we might spy caimans and capybaras.
Our final day starts with a serene morning in the jungle before we commence our journey back to Cusco. A stop in Aguas Calientes allows for a soothing dip in hot springs, capping off our adventure. We’ll return to Cusco by evening, carrying memories of the Amazon Biosphere reserve that will last a lifetime.
