Itinerary

Day 1:Cusco – Cloud Forest – Rainforest Lodge

We will depart Cusco at dawn and head southeast toward the Amazon basin. The Andes will unfold before us with every twist of the road. Towering peaks will give way to valleys filled with colorful villages.

We will stop in Paucartambo, a charming colonial town filled with culture. Walk its narrow streets and experience a slower rhythm of life. Next, we will ascend to the Acjanaco Pass, the official gateway to Manu National Park.

At 3,900 meters above sea level, the pass offers stunning views. As we descend, the climate will shift from dry highland to humid cloud forest. Moss-covered trees and orchids will greet us on the trail.

We might spot the vibrant Andean Cock-of-the-Rock during its mating ritual. This area hosts many endemic bird species. Our expert guide will help us identify birds and plants along the road.

By late afternoon, we will reach our Rainforest Lodge nestled in the green jungle. After check-in, we may rest or explore the surroundings. The jungle sounds will grow louder as night falls.

We will enjoy dinner made from local ingredients. Then, we may take a short walk to observe nocturnal insects and frogs. The forest will begin to hum with its night symphony.

Day 2:Rainforest Lodge – Atalaya Port – Palotoa Ecological Reserve

We will wake to birdsong and the mist rising from the canopy. After breakfast, we will drive to Atalaya Port, passing coca fields and waterfalls.

At the port, we will board a motorized canoe. The Alto Madre de Dios River will carry us deep into the jungle. Along the way, we may see caimans, herons, and capybaras near the shore.

We will stop at Aguas Calientes, a natural hot spring hidden in the forest. Here, we could soak and relax in the warm waters. The spring lies in a peaceful setting surrounded by thick jungle.

After the break, we will continue our boat ride to the Palotoa Ecological Reserve. This protected zone offers pristine rainforest and wildlife sightings. We will arrive at the lodge in time for lunch.

In the afternoon, we will hike jungle trails to learn about medicinal plants. The guide will show us how locals use bark, roots, and leaves for healing. We may see monkeys and colorful birds in the trees.

After dinner, we will join a night walk. Flashlights may reveal spiders, frogs, and glowing fungi. The jungle’s nocturnal life will surprise and amaze us.

We might see parrots, toucans, or even armadillos. Monkeys may swing above as we walk. The air will feel thick with moisture and filled with the scent of earth and plants.

Your guide will explain forest survival techniques used by local communities. We will learn to make ropes, find water, and recognize edible plants. These skills have sustained people for centuries.

After lunch, we may take another hike or relax at the lodge. There will be time for wildlife photography and birdwatching. You could explore at your own pace or rest in a hammock.

In the evening, we will gather around a bonfire. The guide may tell stories of jungle spirits and conservation. An optional night hike could reveal owls, snakes, or glow-in-the-dark insects.

At the port, our vehicle will wait for the return to Cusco. We will retrace our route through the cloud forest. One last stop in Paucartambo will give us time to stretch and say goodbye.
